MLSC capital grant will double the size of LabCentral

CAMBRIDGE – Tuesday, April 2, 2014 – Governor Deval Patrick today will join the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC), MIT President Rafael Reif, LabCentral’s leadership, industry stakeholders and state and local officials to celebrate the grand opening of LabCentral’s state-of-the-art, 28,000 square-foot facility in Kendall Square in Cambridge. The Governor will also announce $5 million in additional capital funding from the MLSC for LabCentral to fund build-out of additional space of equal size near LabCentral’s existing 700 Main Street location, continuing the Patrick Administration’s dedication to expanding opportunities for innovative life sciences and biotech companies.

Homeland Security Department logoWASHINGTON—Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson will extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for eligible nationals of Haiti for an additional 18 months, effective July 23, 2014 through Jan. 22, 2016.  Current Haitian beneficiaries seeking to extend their TPS status must re-register during a 60-day period that runs from March 3, 2014, through May 2, 2014. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) encourages beneficiaries to re-register as soon as possible once the 60-day period begins. USCIS will not accept applications before March 3, 2014.

 

Mayor Martin J. Walsh (Boston)Offer eligible working families assistance with tax prep and identifying tax credits

 BOSTON – Mayor Martin J. Walsh and a coalition of community and business partners kicked off the 2014 Boston Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) campaign and celebrated the opening of 24 community-based tax preparation centers. The centers, open now through April, will assist low- and moderate-income families with filing their taxes and identifying their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), an often-overlooked federal and state income tax credit.

$27 million Initiative is the largest Financial Investment in a Pay for Success Contract in the Country

CHELSEA – Wednesday, January 29, 2014 – Governor Deval Patrick today announced the launch of the nation’s largest financial investment in a Pay for Success (PFS) initiative, which is designed to improve outcomes for hundreds of at-risk young men in the probation system or leaving the juvenile justice system. The Massachusetts Juvenile Justice Pay for Success Initiative will not only improve the lives of young people, but also reduce crime, promote safer and stronger communities and save taxpayer dollars.

BOSTON- At-Large Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley today re-filed her 2013 hearing order calling for improvements and investments in a coordinated city-wide trauma response system. Over the past four years, Councilor Pressley has been leading the charge for increased access to trauma response and recovery services for residents following homicides, domestic and sexual violence, and in the aftermath of the marathon bombings. Given the high number of homicides this January and a new administration, she is renewing her efforts to ensure individuals and families impacted by violence have access to the community-based behavioral health services they need to heal.
