Les résidents de cette importante ville du Massachusetts devront décider le Mardi 12 Mai prochain par voie référendaire si un casino sera construit presqu’à l’entrée du plus grand lycée du Nord-Est des Etats-Unis  avec plus de 4,000 élèves. Après le vote unanime par les autorités municipales (Maire et 11 Conseillers) de l’accord de principe pour accuellir le troisième et dernier casino autorisé par l’organisation étatique de tutelle, le  Massachusetts Gaming Commission, c’est le grand débat entre, d’un côté,  le camp du “Yes for Brockton” (Oui pour Brockton) qui vante l’impact économique direct d’un investissement de $650 millions et de l’autre “Stand Up for Brockton” des opposants qui font ressortir les conséquences sociales de l’implantation de ce “Méga-Project” dans une ville où le taux de criminalité est de 44 pour 1,000 habitants, soit le plus élevé  de l’Etat après Chelsea (57/1000).

Le président Obama a déclaré Mardi 14 Avril Journée nationale de l'égalité salariale aux Etats-Unis. De nombreuses activités ont été organisées à Boston pour marquer cette journée. Tout a commencé ce matin  à l’hôtel Omni Parker House (Centre-Ville) où le maire Martin J. Walsh a été rejoint par plus de 200 chefs d’entreprises pour discuter sur des disparités dans l'équité des salaires entre les sexes et les races.

BOSTON – Today, Governor Charlie Baker signed an Executive Order to establish a task force on Economic Opportunity for Populations Facing Chronically High Rates of Unemployment. The task force, chaired by Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Ron Walker will lay out a strategic plan to address chronic unemployment among specific target populations.
The Secretaries of Housing and Economic Development, Education, Health and Human Services and Veterans’ Services, the Director of Access and Opportunity and members of the community appointed by the governor will also serve on the eight month task force.
