A group of Haitians and Haitian-Americans had a meeting yesterday morning (Wednesday, January 13), one day after the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti, seeking the most effective way to respond to the needs of the motherland's victims. Short and long terms solutions were carefully considered: how to responsibly inform the Haitian community about this crisis which may affect up to three million people in Haiti, especially those who are not able to take advantage of today's technology.

A group of Haitians and Haitian-Americans had a meeting yesterday morning (Wednesday, January 13), one day after the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti, seeking the most effective way to respond to the needs of the motherland's victims. Short and long terms solutions were carefully considered: how to responsibly inform the Haitian community about this crisis which may affect up to three million people in Haiti, especially those who are not able to take advantage of today's technology.

Psychologists are needed to assist those who have lost friends and family members. Officer Yves Dambreville, who was on the phone with State Representative Marie St. Fleur has reported that a meeting between the Boston Police Commissioner and the Mayor of Boston, Thomas Menino is scheduled for 5:00pm this evening where they will discuss how some Haitian American Boston police officers could leave to go to Haiti as soon as possible to help with efforts on the ground. Understandably, dealing with a crisis of this magnitude for the first time, people are very emotional despite their desire to help..
